You Should Not Vote for Donald Trump
The race to the Oval Office continues as Americans prepare themselves to vote for their 45th president. The 2016 elections scheduled for Tuesday, November 8, 2016, will see a new Chief Executive of the United States elected. Various people have declared their candidacy for the biggest job in the country. For instance, the Republican Party currently has a dozen of candidates competing for the partys nomination. At the same time, three main opponents fight for the Democratic nomination ticket for the presidency. In addition, different third party and independent candidates are equally interested in the presidency.. Donald Trump is one of the presidential candidates who have declared their interest in becoming the next U.S. president. Trump announced his interest in running for the presidency on June 16, 2015, from his Manhattan Trump Tower and became a leading force on the campaign trail (Levine). However, the major question that arises concerning the candidacy of Trump is whether he is the right man for the job. Trump is an egomaniac and abrasive person who is highly unqualified to hold a position as powerful as the President of the United States and thus deserves no support with regards to his desire to hold this position.
Trump has proven to be one of the most peculiar presidential candidates America has had so far not because of his tough talk and straightforwardness, but rather because of his abrasive nature. Trump, who is by profession a real estate developer, has showed several times that he cannot be trusted to hold the most powerful office in the Unites States as demonstrated by his remarks and actions. Therefore, as an American citizen, I do not support the candidacy of Donald Trump and, therefore, I cannot vote for him. Some of the reasons this man does not deserve support and the position at the Oval Office are provided below.
First, Trump is not worth the presidency of the United States because of the high level of ignorance he has managed to demonstrate over time. His ignorance cannot be attributed to the fact that he is not a politician. Further, the fact that he has not served in the forces nor held any public office position makes him unqualified for the presidency. For instance, during both December and November presidential debates, Trump has shown that he does not know much about governance. In particular, he was unable to display any form of knowledge with regards to nuclear triad when he was asked to speak about it during the debate (Levine). I find such ignorance worrying for a presidential candidate because despite having the best advisers, a president should possess basic knowledge about government and the presidency. Considering the subject of the nuclear triad comprised of land-based and submarine missiles whose launch is under the control of the president in the event the country is attacked, I doubt that someone as volatile as Trump should be trusted with such power. Moreover, the fact that he once claimed that he could shoot people in 5th Avenue (Cupp) make it quite scary to allow him such control as he will end up being referred to as the one man who destroyed the United States.
On a more significant matter, Trumps foreign policy is not only insulting but also insufficient, as it has a very little level of maturity in it. The fact that he does not respect immigrants as a contributing force to the American economy is a reason enough for him to be dismissed as a candidate for the presidency. Immigrants actually make a high contribution to America. They are significant to the overall success of the country. Further, they deserve a chance to live better lives since the reason they leave their countries in the first place is to escape from problems such as wars and dictatorial leadership. Thus, Trumps claim that he will foresee the expulsion of 11 million illegal immigrants is unfair to these people (Martosko). Though illegal they should be given a chance to make a life for themselves. In line with these thoughts on immigration, Trump has claimed that he will build a wall that will prevent Mexicans from moving to America and further, he will make them pay for building this wall (Estevez). However, Mexico has its sovereignty and there is no way he is going to make it pay for anything. Second, the cost of maintaining the integrity of this wall will be heavy and the American people will have to pay for it. In addition, it will take hundreds of troops to safeguard such a wall. Third, such claim of expelling immigrants from the United States is actually something that can only be accomplished in ones imagination. It is an unrealistic goal, as the process will entail using hundreds of people to go door to door in the country and ensure that there are no illegal immigrants in the United States.
Another unsatisfactory issue with regards to Trumps foreign policy is how he would deal with terrorism and, in particular, Muslims in America. He states that he will bar Muslims from entering the United States, which is unrealistic since not only Muslims are prone to terrorist activities (Diamond). Trump also claims that he will quickly defeat ISIS, which also sounds not achievable. Overall, Trumps foreign policy will not contribute to the U.S. welfare but rather cripple it. This factor confirms that Trump is a person who should not be given an opportunity to ascend to the presidency.
Trumps personal attributes completely deny him any form of support as a presidential contender. The President of the United States of America is a leader of not just America but also the whole world. Thus, a candidate should be able to demonstrate successfully the competent qualities of a leader. Trump lacks these leadership qualities. Firstly, he is a sexist and he has absolutely no respect for women, which can be demonstrated by his feud with Megyn Kelly, a political commentator on Fox News (Robinson). The fight started when Kelly asked Trump about some of the ways he has treated women over time. Instead of providing a satisfactory answer or defense of his actions, Trump demonstrated a high level of lack of maturity when he instead attacked Kelly. He became as inappropriate as to say that she had blood coming out of her, which many viewers considered a reference to her menstruation (Robinson). In my opinion, this behavior is a poor portrayal of the president, and it makes one anticipate how he would represent America in the international arena.
Trump further demonstrates his lack of maturity not only as a leader but also as an adult when he complains and blames others for his loss. The situation during the recent Iowa Caucus where he came in second can serve an example of the above behavior. Following his loss, he started attacking his opponents by making vicious comments about them in his Twitter. For example, he attacked his opponent Ted Cruz and labeled his speech as rumbling. He finally revealed his attitude when he said, Ted Cruz didn’t win Iowa, he stole it. That is why all of the polls were so wrong and why he got far more votes than anticipated. Bad! (Bash and Diamond). I consider such kind of conduct as a poor leadership portrayal. At this point, Trump is whining and acting like a spoilt child who has been denied of receiving what he wants. Further, his comments on Twitter after his loss in Iowa Caucus do not just portray him as a sore loser, but also as a leader who is incapable of taking any form of responsibility for what takes place in his life. He is full of excuses. For instance, he wrote on his Twitter, Because I was told I could not do well in Iowa, I spent very little there a fraction of Cruz & Rubio. Came in a strong second. Great honor (Bash and Diamond). A president is not someone who can afford excuses. On the contrary, a president should always be in a position to make right decisions all the time without complaining and offering excuses as explanations for things which did not go as planned.
Another reason Trump does not deserve any form of support is his bigotry. He has perfected the art of openly criticizing other races and religion without any form of remorse. For instance, his unflattering remarks about Mexicans have upset many people. He called Mexican immigrants as criminals and drug dealers and even proceeded to label them as rapists (Estevez). He has also made other minority groups worry about their well-being in case he becomes a president. As the United States is the democratic country, all American citizens should have same rights despite the difference in color or religious beliefs. Therefore, as a president, Trump is incapable of uniting Americans. Instead, he will lead to catastrophic fights among the people and thus disable the nation.
In addition, the fact that Trump is incapable of understanding the problems of middle and lower class, American citizens disqualify him as a presidential candidate and, therefore, he should not receive any form of support. The fact that he perceives 1 million U.S. dollars as little money obviously shows he does not know what lower classes of Americans experience as they struggle to earn money. This attitude also confirms that he is incapable of introducing a policy that will ensure fair wealth distribution.
In conclusion, Donald Trump has brought freshness in the campaign trail for the 2016 presidential elections. It is completely understandable for Americans to want someone different in the White House. However, Americans should opt for someone else. All the reasons above confirm just how unfit this man is to be the American president. His erratic behavior will lead to the United States losing its repetition around the world. He will cause the country to engage in wars over insignificant reasons, for instance, dislike for certain people. His poor ability to show any form of maturity further disqualifies him as a presidential contender. In this regard, he deserves no support and the position at the Oval Office. Therefore, there is a need to stop his presidential ambitions through the selection of a candidate who will satisfy the interests of the American people.
