With the complexity of the business environment, students of business management need to be taken through a syllabus enabling them to ensure the following fact. The businesses they manage remain competitive and successful. It calls for their need to be acquainted when it comes to the issues, which might concern both employees and employers. The course I have undertaken took me through the topics, which are going to make great impacts on my professionalism; conflict resolution, and building relationships by communicating supportively.
I understand a conflict as the clash that arises between individuals within an organization and, hence, must be resolved for the business to be proceeded on properly and smoothly (Whetten & Cameron, 2015). Whenever it occurs, the resolution must be sought for a better relationship to continue existing within the firm. However, resolving the clash may not be that easy without proper communication channels that are put in place and stakeholders encouraged to communicate freely. Free communication makes the workforce equipped in an organization to communicate effectively with vendors, customers, and other partners. These ones may need to rely on the information communicated.
More than ever before, I currently understand the role that conflict resolution plays and the need to implement it properly for its impacts in the organizations. The course has made me appreciate that any firm that wishes to maximize its productivity must have the proper mechanisms to resolve clashes. A conflict must be minimized at all costs to allow workers concentrating in their work without interruptions. One of the ways to do this is to ensure that the parts and responsibilities of workers are clearly outlined, thus, there is no clashing of duties. It would reduce the time taken to iron out issues and enhance the overall productivity within the company.
Additionally, it is known to me that conflict management strengthens bonds among employees. With all the conflicts resolved, workers find it interesting and motivated to work. When clashes are managed, stress and tension are greatly reduced within the workforce, thus, ensuring motivation. Therefore, the productivity is increased. However, I have learnt that for any organization to maximize its benefits from the set conflict resolution mechanisms, every implementation should, first, be discussed with all employees. Therefore, there is no single workers left aside.
Conflict resolution has also helped organizations ensure that fights and tussles, which could spoil the good relationships among employees, are minimized or even eliminated (Whetten & Cameron, 2015). One of the ways to do it is to come up with a list of enemies and any expression of negativity within the firm and address them. At the same time, the course has made me appreciate the need to look beyond the working environment if peaceful coexistence is achieved. Any manager should know that any conflict resolution should also aim at equipping workers to live peacefully with their families. Evidently, employees that experience wrangles at home are not as effective and stress-free as those ones enjoying peace and support from relatives. With the knowledge I have gained, I now appreciate that nothing can be implemented if there are some clashes among persons; thus, the resolution of any conflict within an organization has got its value.
Consequently, managing the issues must always aim at helping to get the middle ground and an alternative to any form of business problems being encountered in a process of business transactions. In addition, any looming problem has to be addressed at the right time to ensure that the adverse effects of conflicts are reduced greatly while doing business.
Again, I have come to appreciate that dealing with issues enhances the commitment among employees and their employers too. Through a resolution schedule, conflicting partners can actually be united again and eliminate the possible challenges and problems that they might be undergoing (Whetten & Cameron, 2015). Even as it is done, it is important to consider the following fact. The lasting solution is such one aimed at changing the perception of those ones involved; thus, they can think differently and move from individuals thinking about the interests of the group.
Lastly, I have learnt that the resolution of conflicts generates new insights within varied parties. Sharing unique opinions among people actually makes them have various opinions at the situations they face in the course of carrying out their work. The whole process requires an environment where workers can interact freely; and they are, therefore, able to share different views. It is the divergent opinions that result into diverse methods of solving matters and increasing productivity in an organization.
On the other hand, the course has also helped me to appreciate the need for effective communication and equipped me with the necessary skills. Effective contact is important. It ensures that all employees within the firm are on a similar page achieving common goals. They fulfill the objectives and goals of the organization. Through the course, I now understand that business communication entails project plans, regular meetings, status reports, and email updates. Incorporating all these ones makes workers apprised, as well as ready for any progress and changes, which might influence the goals of the business. For an efficient coordination, there must be effective and proper verbal and non-verbal forms of communication within the company.
Similarly, proper and effective contact ensures that deadlines are met. It means that time parameters, which are crucial within the firm, are met (Whetten & Cameron, 2015). It would only happen when delays, missed shipments, and backlogging are communicated in advance to the business. I have learnt that in this way, the budgets of organizations stay on course as productivity is being improved and errors. These ones are likely to occur are being reduced. It would ensure that deadlines are met and scheduled, as well as the crucial information relevant to productivity is not lost.
Through the lesson on communication, I have also learnt that effective communication in business ensures the following fact. There is the connection between the business and its customers. Communication is a key for quality services to customers to be rendered hence helping clients to recognize their importance to the organization. At the same time, goodwill with buyers can be enhanced through communicating on the status of work, timely response, and clarification of information that is required (Whetten & Cameron, 2015). It could encourage the communication with vendors as well as suppliers that are the key stakeholders in the business and can break the firm. This kind of communication is also important in relaying any data that may be dissatisfying to beneficiaries. Therefore, it enables them to take corrective measures before the problem can escalate to be more serious.
Currently, I have started applying an effective communication within our firm to ensure the following fact. All customers are satisfied as their demands are being considered. It has also helped me to ensure that in case of a conflict within the company, it is resolved through verbal communication during meetings and briefs.
Impacts of the Class
After the class, I am going to change the way, in which I am going to handle my employees. For example, I will be providing the data frequently and in such a way to be understood by everybody. At the same time, I am going to ensure that all of them are involved in a decision making process so that they cannot actually feel that they are left out.
In addition, I will be keen on how I handle conflicts. In fact, from tomorrow, my focus will be on communing up with the clash and resolution guidelines to be included in the larger organizational policy. While doing this, I plan to incorporate the views of all stakeholders. In fact, these ones will come up with the measures to be taken against anyone found to be in breach of regulations set. In this way, they are likely to own the document and live by its set standards.
The actions points will not present me with real challenges since trainings and workshops are some of the components of the lessons learnt. I plan to introduce continuous trainings and meetings and get together the functions for greater impacts. It would improve the levels of communication within the organization; thus, it is promoting closer relationships among employees and the management. At the same time, such trainings would also aim at developing and making the human resources to ensure that they match the needs of the company through embracing the organizational goal.
In conclusion, the course was very important in preparing me to handle challenges related to business management. To be particular, the two topics that have been outlined, conflict resolution and effective business communication have greatly helped me to develop as far as business management is concerned. Looking at the way how the course has equipped me with the needed skills to face challenges in the business work, there is no doubt in the following fact. The course has met its set objectives at the very beginning of our classes.
